Roulette is one of the simplest games to play in the world of casino games. What makes it so popular is the thrill of the combination of the ball spinning in the roulette wheel and the complete randomness of the outcome—‘Round and ‘round she goes, where she stops, nobody knows!’
The game itself is made up of the roulette wheel, either the American wheel or the European, the white ball, the betting table and sets of colored chips to designate which player has bet on what.
A round of roulette begins with players exchanging money for a set of colored chips. These chips allow the croupier, or dealer, to tell which bets belong to which player. The value of each chip is determined by how much the player bought in for.
Once all the players have their chips, bets are placed. This is the trickier aspect of roulette since there are a number of ways to bet. Payouts will vary from 35-1 to 1-1. Bets can be made on single numbers, whole colors or certain combination of numbers. It is generally safer to bet on a set of numbers, such as betting on a column of numbers or a set of twelve numbers.
The croupier will call an end to betting, at which point players must remove their hands from the betting table. Then the croupier will release the white ball into the wheel, where it will spin until it stops in a numbered pocket. The croupier will call the results. Payouts will then be made to any players who made a winning bet, and losing bets are cleared from the table. The next round will then begin.
Despite the many ways of betting, this is still one of the most popular table games to play because it is easy to play and allows for more socializing with friends and other players than card games do.
